The Properties of Horizontal Magnetic Elements in Quiet Solar Intranetwork
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using the data observed by the Solar Optical Telescope/Spectro-Polarimeter aboard the Hinode satellite, the horizontal and vertical fields are derived from the wavelength-integrated measures of Zeeman-induced linear and circular polarizations. The quiet intranetwork regions are pervaded by horizontal magnetic elements. We categorize the horizontal intranetwork magnetic elements into two types: one is the non-isolated element which is accompanied by the vertical magnetic elements during its evolution; another is the isolated element which is not accompanied by the vertical magnetic elements. Their properties, such as lifetime, size and magnetic flux density, are studied, and the relationships among various magnetic parameters are investigated. We identify 446 horizontal intranetwork magnetic elements, among them 87 elements are isolated and 359 are non-isolated. Quantitative measurements reveal that the isolated elements have relatively weaker horizontal magnetic fields, almost equal size, and shorter lifetime comparing with the non-isolated elements. Most non-isolated horizontal intranetwork magnetic elements are identified to associate with the emergence of Ω-shaped flux loops. A few non-isolated elements seem to indicate scenarios of submergence of Ω loops or emergence of U-like loops. There is a positive correlation between the lifetime and the size for both the isolated and non-isolated HIFs. It is also found that there is also positive correlation between the lifetime and the magnetic flux density for non-isolated HIFs, but no correlation for isolated HIFs. Even though the horizontal elements show lower magnetic flux density, they could carry the total magnetic flux in the order of magnitude close to 10 Mx to the solar surface each day. Strength distribution of solar magnetic fields in photospheric quiet Sun regions
Context. The magnetic topology of the solar photosphere in its quietest regions is hidden by the difficulties to disentangle magnetic flux through the resolution element from the field strength of unresolved structures. The observation of spectral lines with strong coupling with hyperfine structure, like the observed Mn i line at 553.7 nm, allows such differentiation. Aims. To analyse the distr...
متن کاملThe motion patterns of intranetwork magnetic elements
By tracing individual elements, we have measured horizontal velocity and studied motion patterns of Intranetwork (IN) magnetic elements for the first time. The magnetograms obtained at Big Bear Solar Observatory span an interval of 10-hour and cover an area of 310×240 arc sec2. In general, IN elements move radially and isotropically outwards from emergence centers to boundaries of supergranule ...
متن کاملComparison of Magnetic Flux Distribution between a Coronal Hole and a Quiet Region
Employing Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) deep magnetograms and Hα images in a quiet region and a coronal hole, observed on September 14 and 16, 2004, respectively, we have explored the magnetic flux emergence, disappearance and distribution in the two regions. The following results are obtained: (1) The evolution of magnetic flux in the quiet region is much faster than that in the coronal ho...
متن کاملInfrared lines as probes of solar magnetic features XIII. The relative flux in weak and strong quiet-sun magnetic fields
An estimate of the fraction of magnetic flux in intrinsically weak-field form, i.e. fields with less than 1 kG intrinsic strength, in the quiet Sun is presented. We find that on average approximately 2/3 of the flux is in weak-field form, although our data allow a range of values between 25% and 85%. These estimates have been derived with the help of radiative transfer model calculations from l...
متن کاملThe evolution of intranetwork magnetic elements
We have studied the evolution of Intranetwork (IN) magnetic elements, using a particularly good series of very deep magnetograms obtained at Big Bear Solar Observatory. The magnetograms span an interval 10 hours long and cover an area of 310×240 arcsec2. We are able to follow 528 intranetwork elements from birth to death. The analysis reveals the following results: (1). The appearance of IN ele...
